EU-Montenegro Civil Society Joint Consultative Committee is a significant basis for improving political and social dialogue, as well as for looking at further directions and perspectives of the negotiation process, said Montenegro’s Chief negotiator with the EU, Aleksandar Drljević at the 11th meeting of the EU-Montenegro Civil Society Joint Consultative Committee.

Cooperation with the Government, he said, has been especially strengthened through the involvement of civil society representatives in the working groups for the preparation of EU accession talks.

Drljević stated that they comprise nearly one third of the negotiation structure, which has around 1,400 members.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, Aivo Orav, noted that the EU is not an issue that concerns only the Brussels bureaucracy, the government or government officials, but something that can change people’s lives in Montenegro.

“The positions of the civil society in the enlargement process represent a significant contribution to the process itself. The EU integration process is not and should not be only a project for elites, but something that is of importance for all citizens of Montenegro, as well as for all EU citizens,” Orav noted.
